A Consulting Practice
Rooted in Sabah
We founded Bumi Advisors because the companies we wanted to serve — Malaysian businesses with genuine ambition — deserved advisors who actually understood their context.
Back to HomeWe Started with a Straightforward Observation
Bumi Advisors was established in Kota Kinabalu with a specific intent: to provide business consulting that reflects the realities of operating in East Malaysia. Sabah's business environment has its own character — regional supply chain dynamics, a diverse cultural and economic landscape, and a growing number of companies with real ambitions beyond state borders.
Our founders had spent years in advisory roles within larger consultancies and noticed a consistent gap. The frameworks were often imported wholesale from other markets, the consultants rarely stayed long enough to understand the client's actual situation, and the deliverables frequently gathered dust. We wanted to do this differently.
Since opening our Jalan Gaya office, we've worked with companies across manufacturing, services, retail distribution, and professional services — supporting business owners and leadership teams through health checks, innovation projects, and regional expansion planning. Our client relationships tend to be substantive and ongoing because trust, once built, is worth preserving.

Quality & Professional Standards
These are the practical commitments that shape how we conduct every engagement — regardless of scope or client size.
Confidentiality Protocols
Mutual NDA as standard practice before substantive work begins. Client information is never shared, referenced, or used in any other context.
Scope Clarity
Every engagement begins with a written brief confirming scope, deliverables, timeline, and fees. No scope creep without explicit discussion and agreement.
Independence
We do not accept referral fees or commissions from third parties. Recommendations are based on what we believe serves the client's interests — nothing else.
Documented Deliverables
All engagements produce written outputs your team can use independently. We don't create dependency on ongoing advisory as a business model.
Senior Delivery
The consultant who leads your engagement is the person who does the work — not a junior analyst supervised from a distance.
Data Privacy Compliance
Client and personal data handled in accordance with Malaysia's PDPA 2010 and relevant data protection standards for cross-border engagements.
A Consulting Practice That Works at Your Pace
Business advisory in Malaysia operates within a context that's specific to this part of the world. Relationships take time. Trust isn't assumed — it's earned across interactions. Decisions often involve considerations that sit outside the scope of a standard financial model. Bumi Advisors was built with this understanding as its foundation, not as an afterthought.
Our work spans three core practice areas: business performance diagnostics, organisational innovation capability, and cross-border expansion planning for ASEAN markets. Within each area, we bring structured thinking — tools and frameworks that have been refined across many engagements — alongside the judgement that comes from working directly in this region.
Kota Kinabalu's business community is smaller and more connected than in the peninsula. Reputation moves quickly. That creates a useful accountability — every engagement matters because the city is small enough that word travels, and we'd rather have it travel in the right direction. Our approach to client work reflects that reality.
Whether you're considering a Business Pulse Check to take stock of where things stand, building an innovation pipeline for a company that's found its core model and wants to explore new territory, or planning entry into multiple ASEAN markets simultaneously — we bring the same level of preparation and engagement to each scope.
